How the Chiefs Won Yet Another Super Bowl

On Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs became the first repeat Super Bowl champions since the 2003 New England Patriots, cementing the team's status as a dynasty. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes strengthened his case as one of the best of all time, despite being just 28 years old. Tight End Travis Kelce bounced back from an ineffective first half to power his team to victory, and WR Mecole Hardman Jr. kept his focus throughout the regular and postseason despite numerous key errors, and ended up making the game winning catch.

All the way back in Week 1, they lost the NFL opener to the Lions, albeit without Travis Kelce. Although they picked it up after that, there were certainly low moments, moments where hope looked bleak. They hit a midseason slump, and at points it looked like they may not make the playoffs at all.  They strung together wins against the Bengals and Chargers at the end of the season, though, and headed into the postseason with that little bit of momentum.

As the playoffs were starting, the Chiefs were considered one of the favorites to take down the 1 seeded Ravens, largely because of their previous playoff experience. They faced the Dolphins in the first round, a team who has struggled to beat better teams all year. That showed in the game, as the Chiefs dominated to move on to the Bills, ready for another battle.

As it turns out, it was smart of them to be prepared. In another instant classic, they took down the Bills 27-24, staying strong when trailing and holding the Bills scoreless in the 4th quarter to reach another Conference Championship. Once again, Kansas City received major contributions from Mahomes, Pacheco, and Kelce on their way to a battle with the Ravens.

In that game, their defense again held strong, taking them to the Super Bowl. Pacheco took a back seat in this one, as Mahomes and Kelce returned to the form we all have gotten used to seeing. Chiefs fans were once again back to the biggest game in football, led by their generational TE and possible GOAT QB.

Against the 49ers in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs started off slow, but kept it within one possession heading into halftime, thanks to a Harrison Butker field goal. In the second half, we saw vintage Mahomes and Kelce, as they stayed strong despite a slow first half. Using a classic game tying drive, they brought the 9ers into overtime, just the second ever Super Bowl OT game. Even though San Francisco struck first with a field goal in overtime, Kansas City kept going with a steady, long drive, completing the Chiefs second straight Super Bowl run and 3rd overall in the Mahomes era.
