NFL Preview: Part 1: NFC East

Published on 16 May 2024 at 10:33

With the NFL schedules fully released and all game dates and bye weeks decided, it is time to take a look at the teams and see how they will shape out. For this first part we will take a look at the NFC East, make record predictions, and explain our thoughts related to each team.

Cowboys (11-6)

Yeah, they won the division last year, but they don't have the easiest schedule and I'm not totally convinced Dak Prescott can have two good seasons in a row. For this scenario, I have them splitting games against the Eagles, but losing a majority of the games against winning teams from last season. They handle business within the rest of the division though, going 4-2 after sweeping the Giants and splitting against a Commanders team I expect to drastically improve under Jayden daniels' leadership. This record should be good enough to win them a division in this scenario, as I have them taking their last 6 games to give them some momentum heading into the playoffs.

Eagles (11-6)

While they won't win their division and it is the same record that they had last year, I would consioder this scenario an improvement for the Eagles. They stayed consistent throughout the entire sason, and, other than a 3 game skid coming off their bye week, they don't go on any major streaks. It's important to stay closer to the ground - not too high, not too low - as they showed us last year. This record should be good enough to get them the 5 seed again, which they will hopefully capitalize on. Additionally, I have them avenging last year's playoff loss to the Bucs in week 4, a win that would surely give them an early season energy boost.

Commanders (9-8)

Maybe. Maybe Jayden Daniels is the guy that breaks the spell that the Cowboys and Eagles cast upon the division last year.  With a brand new QB and a sold supporting cast around him, this team might just have what it takes. Their 9-8 record in this scenario might just be good enough to sneak them into the back end of the WIld Card picture. However, any winning record should be considered a major improvement and might solidify Jayden Daniels as this team's franchise QB.

Giants (5-12)

I am not confident in this Giants team. Daniel Jones has been shaky throughout his entire career, and the loss of Saquan Barkley will take away his main skill player. If he wants to bring this team back to the playoffs like they were two years ago, he will need absurd levels of productions from 6th overall pick WR Malik Nabers. By no means am I saying that isn't possible, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. Devin Singletary is a solid RB, but won't carry them like Barkley did. As it looks now, this next season could spell the start of another rebuild in New York, starting with getting rid of Daniel Jones, whom they gave a major extension to just 2 short years ago.
