With opening day having past and the season in full swing, let's recap the top 4 best rookies or newcomers to the MLB this season, and how they will fair.
Wyatt Langford
Going #4 in the most recent draft, left fielder Wyatt Langford proved his worth in his last college season. Leading the Florida Gators to the College World Series, Wyatt made waves around the baseball community with how he began to dominate the Minor Leagues. Starting at the High-A level, he showed great power on the Hickory Crawdads before going right to the Round Rock Express at the Triple-A level. Following his minor league campaign, he got a chance with the Rangers on opening day and did not disappoint, already having collected three RBIs. How Wyatt Langford should fair as the season progresses will be a worthy watch, and I am here for it.
Jackson Holliday
One of Oklahoma State's best, Holliday was the first overall pick in 2022 and is only 20 years old. Playing for the Orioles minor league at the shortstop, Holliday is one of the youngest yet most skilled players around. Playing on a team like the Orioles, who are expected to make a deep postseason run this year, there is no question Holliday has a bright future. He can do anything from the box, having a combination of quickness and power not seen commonly at any level. Whether or not he gets called up this year, the league is most definitely going to get a taste of Holliday in the next few years.
Jasson Dominguez
From the Dominican Republic, Dominguez is one of the most impressive and explosive center fielders the league has seen in a while. Although he went through Tommy John surgery last year, he is one of the most highly anticipated prospects in the league, and we hope to see more of him by the all-star break. Nicknamed the Martian, the power Jasson displays is out-of-this-world (pun intended). Last year, in his first game against the Astros, Dominguez when deep on the second pitch from Verlander, bringing in another runner as well and proving that he is ready for the league.
Dylan Crews
Playing for the LSU Tigers last year, who won the College World Series, Dylan Crews is a top prospect with tons of potential this year. Going #2 in the draft behind his own teammate Paul Skenes, Crews joined the Nationals and currently plays in the minor leagues. Crews displays an unorthodox combination of speed and strength, having gone yard many times as well as making it to base on controversial hits. Although the Nationals are not expected to be good this year coming off of a mere 71 win regular season, Crews hopes to get some action at the MLB level, and not many will stop him.
