CBB Bracketology Breakdown #2: SEC

Published on 12 March 2024 at 10:39

Heading into the conference tournament, SEC basketball is looking more exciting than ever. With a surprising final week of the regular season, we saw Kentucky upset Number one in the conference Tennessee. But the Volunteers still have had an impressive season to say the least.  Here are the top 4 teams that all could make a case for winning the conference this upcoming weekend.

4) Auburn

At their best Auburn has appeared to be the one of the best teams in the nation. Notably, the tigers beat a strong South Carolina team by a shocking 40 points. Johni Broome, center/forward, is one of the most dangerous players in all of college basketball and has often proven to be unstoppable.  However, this team is slightly inconsistent, with recent losses to Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

3) Alabama

Another strong yet inconsistent team in the Alabama Crimson Tide. At times this team, specifically their offence, has looked very promising. However, it is hard to ignore this teams recent losses to Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In these losses, the Crimson Tide gave up a shocking amount of points. Despite potential defensive issues, Senior Mark Sears has proven to be one of the nation's best guards and can certainly lead this team to the Conference championship.

2) Kentucky

The Kentucky Wildcats have been one of the most exciting teams to watch over the past few weeks. The team dug their way out of a tough losing streak and is now in the question for receiving a 2 seed. Rob Dillingham has notably stepped up in recent weeks and has been very clutch in important moments. His teammate, Reed Shepard, has also been very strong scoring 27 in their win over Tennessee. However, this team's defense can be an issue and I wouldn’t be surprised if they suffered an upset.

1) Tennessee

Although it is challenging for a team to win both the regular season and the conference tournament, the Volunteers are truly a special team. Lead by star, Dalton Knecht, Tennessee has racked up an impressive 7 quad 1 win over the course of the season. The Vols have ran an encouraging offence utilizing other exciting players such as Zakai Zeigler. Despite their loss to Kentucky, Tennessee is expected to go far in the conference tournament.
