East Bracket Breakdown

Published on 19 March 2024 at 08:05

The East, widely known for being the #1 overall seed's stomping grounds, is set for an interesting year. The UConn Huskies, led by coach Dan Hurley, look to defend their crown and make it back to the finals. In their way in the top half of the bracket, we have 4 seed Auburn and 5 seed San Diego State, whom they beat in the finals last April. By my projections, however, SDSU will not make it that far.

Round 1

1 UConn vs. 16 Stetson

9 Northwestern vs. 8 FAU: In a battle of bubble teams, Northwestern will move on to play 1 seeded UConn.

5 San Diego State vs. 12 UAB

4 Auburn vs. 13 Yale

6 BYU vs. 11 Duquesne

3 Illinois vs. 14 Morehead State

10 Drake vs. 7 Washington State: A hot Drake team coming off a Conference Championship will catch Washington State cold after an early Pac-12 Tournament Exit.

2 Iowa State vs. 15 South Dakota State

Round 2

1 UConn vs. 9 Northwestern

4 Auburn vs. 5 San Digo State: The Tigers take down SDSU, stopping a potential National Championship rematch.

6 BYU vs. 3 Illinois: After switching conferences, the Cougars move into the sweet 16, attempting to take down the #1 overall seed.

2 Iowa State vs. 10 Drake

Sweet 16

1 UConn vs. 4 Auburn: The Huskies continue on their path, not stopping and trampelling through a tough Auburn team.

2 Iowa State vs. 6 BYU: Stopping a potential cinderella story, the Cyclones move on to a battle with UConn.

Elite 8

1 UConn vs. 2 Iowa State: Despite winning the Big 12 tournament, their opponent won their own conference as well. No one in the east is stoppint UConn on their way to the Final 4.
