On Tuesday, after months of speculation, the Bills and Texans reached a deal to send Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs to Houston. In exchange, the Bills received a second round pick in 2025, and are giving a fifth and sixth as well.
At the end of this year's playoffs, there was growing tension between Diggs and the Bills organization. For many fans, it was not a surprise. There had been new rumors coming out each year about problems Diggs had. The real shock for most was the trade actually going through. Much like Aaron Rodgers from last year, people though that the rumors would just keep coming out each year, with nothing coming out of it. That wasn't the case though. Diggs will now join a new team with other talent surrounding him, and a fresh QB entering his second year in the league.
As for Josh Allen, he will now be left without the WR who has helped him develop since his 3rd year. I can only imagine that Allen will feel left in the dark with this move, as he will now only have young stars James Cook and Dalton Kincaid to work with. Additionally, he lost his #2 target, Gabe Davis.
Over the course of this offseason, the Bills organization managed to lose some of their best offensive threats, practically leaving their Superstar QB on an island. However, those big changes were not the only ones made. They also lost two huge pieces in the secondary in the forms of TreDavious White and Jordan Poyer, who have both joined new teams since being cut. By making these moves, the Bills basically acknowledged that their Super Bowl window is all but closed, even with Josh Allen still on the roster.
Meanwhile, the Texans, with this trade, have pushed themselves into contention. Along with this move, they have filled holes on both sides of the ball with the signings of Joe Mixon and Danielle Hunter. Pair those three with second year QB CJ Stroud, TE Dalton Schultz, and WR Nico Collins and this Texans team who was in rebuild mode at the start of last season now finds themselves as one of the top contenders to dethrone the Chiefs in the AFC.
